A once popular property that has turned into an “eyesore”, is up for sale again in The Gurdies near Grantville.
The 1003 Bass Highway land has been on and off the market for years, with remnants of the old buildings still in place.
Whether it was a caravan park, milk bar, petrol station or most recently a gift shop called ‘Fantazia’, locals are sad it has turned to ruins.
“I’m sure it was great in its day … now it’s just an eyesore that is falling down and a constant target for graffiti,” Michele Hardy said.
CCTV cameras now surround the property after a string of vandalism incidents.
The current owner, Roger, who would not provide his last name, told The Bass Coast News he was selling it “because it needs to be developed”.
He said he bought the site because it was “very messy” and he wanted to “clean it up”.
The Gurdies resident Graeme Marchant lives next door to it and hopes it is one day turned into something appealing.
“I wish whoever buys it redevelops it and puts something nice there as it’s an eyesore at the moment,” he said.
“There were homeless people hanging around in there at one stage I believe”.
Andersen Property Specialist listed the site one week ago and they said it was a “good opportunity” for someone to purchase.
“It’s rural activity zoning so it’s pretty opened ended to what you can do with it,” real estate agent Luke Andersen said.
He said there are a couple of buildings on site that “aren’t salvageable” because asbestos is present.
“In terms of development, you would probably demolish it but it would be nice if some of the old Fantazia signs could be saved,” Mr Andersen said.
