Emergency crews rescue elderly pair lost in Gippsland forest near Caringal

Crews have rescued an elderly man and woman who went missing during a hike in a Baw Baw forest.

Rescue crews had a busy night searching for an elderly man and woman got lost during a hike in a state forest in Victoria’s southeast.

VICSES, Victoria Police and Ambulance Victoria were called to the scene on Morgans Mill Rd near Tyers Junction and Caringal just before 10pm Tuesday.

A police spokeswoman said the airwing successfully winched the 79-year-old man and 68-year-old woman, both from Jacana, to safety.

They were taken to hospital for observation.

“VICSES Erica and Moe Units responded to provide ground support for police following reports of two missing persons near Caringal yesterday evening,” a VICSES spokesman said.

An Ambulance Victoria spokeswoman said no emergency treatment or transport was provided.
