Driver killed, another flown to hospital following head-on crash in Bena

A person has been killed and another flown to hospital following a fiery head-on collision near Wonthaggi on Tuesday morning.

A person has been killed and another flown to hospital following a fiery head-on collision at Bena, near Wonthaggi, Tuesday morning.

It is believed the car caught fire after colliding with a truck on the South Gippsland Highway and the driver died at the scene.

The truck driver, in his 20s, has been flown to hospital with non-life-threatening upper body injuries.

Emergency crews were called to the scene about 6.30am.

Flames from the fire spread to nearby grassland and were extinguished by CFA members.

The South Gippsland Highway is closed and will reopen once the scene has been examined and the grain spill cleared.
