Debbie Power found out she had breast cancer after suffering a heart attack and major fall

A Wonthaggi man is asking for help to save the “love of his life” after she was diagnosed with advanced cancer.

A Wonthaggi woman is undergoing cancer treatment after she was rushed to the hospital suffering from a heart attack in October.

Debbie Power’s life was flipped upside down after she suffered a heart attack and major fall in October 2022 and was rushed to Frankston hospital.

What was already a scary diagnosis turned even worse when doctors noticed a lump on her left breast.

Mrs Power had a biopsy of the lump, and her husband, George Stephen, said it was frightening not knowing what was going on.

“The biopsy was done to see what type of advanced cancer Debbie had, which caused a bit of internal bleeding, bruising and considerable pain,” Mr Stephen said.

The lump was found to be advanced breast cancer and Mrs Power needed to be operated on within 30 days.

“Then the journey for breast reconstruction began, with the probability of chemo/radio therapies for some time,” Mr Stephen said.

Mr Stephen has set up a GoFundMe page to “help [him] save the love of his life and soulmate”.

In December last year, Mrs Power had appointments at the Alfred and Frankston Hospitals to plan her surgeries and help her manage her heart which was still being explored after the heart attack.

On December 15, she underwent a mastectomy and had her left breast removed.

The couple have now had to relocate closer to Frankston hospital to continue Mrs Power’s treatment.
