After much speculation, Country Fire Authority have announced their annual Santa Runs will be going ahead this year in a COVID safe way.
A CFA spokesman said a range of activities will resume from November 23.
“CFA is committed to ensuring its members can resume their normal activities as quickly as possible in a safe manner, adhering to advice from the Chief Health Officer and DHHS,” he said.
“CFA will resume a range of face-to-face brigade activities in regional Victoria and Metropolitan Melbourne under strict COVID-19 guidelines.”
These activities include Santa Runs, brigade fundraising activities, brigade meetings, community engagement and permitted award ceremonies.
But not all brigades will be able to participate in Santa Runs due to the limited time they have had to prepare.
Inverloch Fire Brigade community safety coordinator Matthew King said Inverloch’s present drop won’t be going ahead.
“We are currently in the process of working out exactly how we will make a run work this year,” he said.
“At this stage the normal present drop that we do won’t be happening but we still want to do something to see Santa around the community so watch this space.”
Grantville local Kurt Caddy said it’s “absolutely wonderful” that Santa Runs are able to go ahead.
“I hope all brigades in the Bass Coast get involved but I do understand if they can’t,” he said.
Mr Caddy said kids will be very happy considering the tough year they have endured.
“It will be fantastic for young kids that have missed out on a lot due to the restrictions and it will be a great sense of normality during the festive season.”
