A Gippsland man who stole his twin brother’s drivers licence to steal money from a Commonwealth Bank claimed he was going through a “rough patch”.
Bradley Stephens pleaded guilty in the Latrobe Valley Magistrates’ Court to charges including theft and deception.
The court heard Stephens stole a Queensland driver’s licence from his twin brother between June and July 2019.
On July 11, 2019, he used the false driver’s licence at the Commonwealth Bank in Bairnsdale to dishonestly obtain $100 in cash.
Stephens, who represented himself in court, said he was going through a “hard time” when the theft occurred.
“I was going through a rough patch and doing stupid things,” he said.
“My partner ran away to Queensland with my daughter … I wasn’t thinking straight”.
Stephen was ordered to pay back the $100 to the Commonwealth Bank and was given a good behaviour bond for 12 months.
