Sixteen new government schools will open across Victoria this year.
In Bass Coast, a new San Remo campus will cater for 500 new students across Phillip Island and the Waterline area.
The formerly known Wonthaggi Secondary College was the only state high school in the Bass Coast shire.
To fill the gap the San Remo campus was developed.
Member for Bass Jordan Crugnale said she was excited to offer more education facilities to the Bass Coast students.
“Some students would spend an hour on the bus getting to school,” she said.
“Bass Coast College, across all campuses, will be an accessible local school and an important contribution to our community.”
Alongside the opening of Bass Coast College, Clyde Creek Primary School and Clyde Secondary College are set to welcome students for term one in 2022.
Clyde Creek Primary School’s design reflects the local wetlands and gives priority to a broad range of sports on offer for students.
Every new Victorian primary school being built will have a kindergarten on-site or next door, to reduce the burden on parents and carers.
Clyde Secondary College began construction in 2018 and this year is set to welcome 575 students.
Once all stages are complete the school is expected to host about 1300 students with 100 places for people with disabilities.
Deanside Primary school will welcome 500 local students from prep to year six, and is in walking distance from every home in Bowery.
Endeavour Hills Specialist School is a school for children who have autism and limitations with their language skills and adaptive behaviours as well as children with an intellectual disability.
The school appointed Susan Coull as the principal and offers a free bus service for eligible students from home to the school.
Gilgai Plains School, located north of Melbourne, aims to inspire confident and responsible individuals who achieve their best and make the world a better place.
The Greater Shepparton Secondary College is set to have the most students in the state, 2700 will walk through the doors in term one this year, but parents are concerned about the transition which saw four schools merge into one.
The school received $119 million from the state budget on top of the allocated $20.5 million as part of the Shepparton Education Plan.
In other parts of the state, Greenvale will welcome the first secondary school in the area after a two-decade push.
Greenvale Secondary College is set to open from year seven this year and will take on more students as the first cohort progress though high-school.
The construction will be complete for the year seven students to begin in term one, 2022 with the remainder of the development depending on government funding.
Once complete, the school will host 1100 students.
McKinnon Secondary College will open a new campus in the Virginia Park East Bentleigh precinct.
The new college complements the existing campus by catering to the diverse needs of all students, while supporting the growing demand for local secondary school places.
The new campus can enrol up to 1100 students from Year 8 and 9.
Year 7 students will attend one semester at this campus, and one semester at the school‘s McKinnon Road campus.
Port Melbourne Secondary College will showcase environmentally-sustainable design and feature high-tech amenities, including a fabrication lab and robotics workshop, with a 1100 student capacity.
The school will also have a strong focus on STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and maths).
About 40 kilometres northwest of Melbourne is the new Strathtulloh Primary School featuring multiple learning spaces, performing art and physical education buildings, two learning neighbourhoods, outdoor hardcourts and playgrounds.
Bridge Road Children's and Community Centre is located next to the new primary school, and includes kindergarten, maternal and child health, and multipurpose community facilities.
A new primary school in the south of Gisborne will open as Willowbank Primary School and will include two adjoining a kindergartens which will allow students to easily transition from early learning to primary school.
Wollert Primary School will open as a supported inclusion school, which is a mainstream school with additional professional capabilities and facilities designed to cater for a higher than usual proportion of students with a disability.
Students with a disability will receive enhanced support and high-quality, evidence-based educational provision alongside mainstream students to the greatest extent possible in a safe, accessible and supportive environment.
Warun Senior Campus will help ease enrolment pressures from population growth in Melbourne’s inner north by accommodating to Collingwood College and Fitzroy High School students in 2022.
The new campus will have capacity for 650 students and will predominantly cater for year 11 and 12.
The Collingwood and Fitzroy schools will be able to enrol extra years 11–12 students at the new campus and more younger students at their existing sites.
Year 10 students from both schools studying VCE, VET or VCAL subjects will also attend the Wurun Senior Campus as required.
The new facilities will give students a greater choice of senior programs and subjects, with a focus on building 21st century skills.
Two new Catholic schools will open in the Archdiocese of Melbourne in 2022.
St Lawrence of Brindisi Primary School Melton South will welcome students this year and aims to teach children to be creative, wise and peaceful.
Holy Cross Primary School becomes the fifth Catholic primary school in the Parish of Our Lady’s Craigieburn and Roxburgh Park to serve the growing communities in Melbourne’s northern suburbs.
