Architect reveals new impressions for Phillip Island’s hot springs

Designs for Phillip Island’s multi-million dollar hot springs have finally been revealed. See the artist impressions here.

The grand design for a $60 million-dollar hot springs development in Phillip Island has finally been revealed.

Landscape Architect Karl Russo released artist impressions this week for the Saltwater Springs project due to open in 2022.

Mr Russo said the project was an “enormous undertaking”.

“The detailing of it is certainly exciting,” he said.

“I’m really looking forward to seeing it come to life and seeing how some of these construction methods turn out.”

The first stage of the 1215 Phillip Island Rd development will include 10 large pools as well as a swim-up bar, whirlpool, bubble beds, foot spa, reflexology walk — stones designed to massage various pressure points of your feet — a cave pool and mist cave.

It will also include a main building, retail section, a cafe to seat 87 people and carpark with 225 spaces.

The multi-million dollar project will also feature private rentable pods, a children’s pool, a scented pool, salt lagoon, and pools picking up the ocean views.

“We want to make sure there’s enough there for the first opening, but people leave wanting to know what’s going to be brought out in future stages,” Mr Russo said.

He said the project was a “fluid beast” since it was first approved in 2015.

“We are trying to get some wind protection to create an immersive and welcoming environment,” he said.

The project is being developed by Warner Management Services, and will source water from about 800m below the surface.

Mr Russo said different water sources would be tapped into to get natural and salt water with a range of temperatures to suit most people.

“The salt pool will be drawing water from the ocean for a bit of variety,” Mr Russo said.

Future stages will include yoga pavilions, spa treatments and more pools.

Although they are across the world, this is the first time the Bass Coast will be home to a hot spring which is set to attract tourists from across Australia.

In February, Bass Coast Shire Council mayor Brett Tessari said the development would be “amazing” for the economy.

“It’s another one of those attractions that will bring people to our area and keep people down our way,” he said.

“It is a positive example of Phillip Island and Bass Coast moving forward in the tourism world coming out of Covid.”
