A Swifts Creek driver charged over an alleged hit-run that killed a cyclist in Cobungra will be allowed to drive to work, a court has heard.

Andrew Sandy, 25, was charged with dangerous driving causing death, failing to stop and failing to render assistance after he allegedly struck and killed a 62-year-old man, Greg Burley, from Queensland on February 12 this year.

The Bairnsdale Magistrates’ Court heard the victim was riding a bicycle on the Great Alpine Rd when he was struck by a vehicle believed to be an orange Ford Ranger about 8.35am.

Mr Sandy’s defence lawyer Ruth Parker said he lived alone rurally, and runs a contracting business which he is “integral” to.

Magistrate Simon Garnett ruled Mr Sandy would be allowed to drive to work between 5.50am and 6.30pm, Monday to Friday.

Mr Sandy will return to court on June 29.
