The tragic truth about road deaths in Australia

A Tarneit teenager has been killed in a horror dirt bike accident near Stawell.

It’s understood the 18-year-old was riding the motorbike on Rutters Track, south of Commercial Rd, when she crashed into a tree at Illawarra on Sunday.

She died at the scene despite the efforts of emergency services.

Police will prepare a report for the coroner with Northern Grampians Highway Patrol continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.

It was the second fatal accident in regional Victoria at the weekend after a person was killed in a two-vehicle collision at East Wangaratta.

The driver and sole occupant of the other vehicle, a 20-year-old woman from Wodonga, was taken to hospital with minor injuries following that incident.

There have been 192 lives lost on the roads this year compared to 180 in 2020.
