A rock and country music festival in western Victoria will showcase some of Australia’s best-known musicians – and contribute to better mental health for Victoria’s regional residents – this weekend.

The Pyrenees Hideout Festival will be held on February 11 at the Goldfields Recreation Reserve in Beaufort.

Heading up the one-day, all-ages concert are artists including Daryl Braithwaite, Kasey Chambers, The Black Sorrows, Travis Collins, and more.

GAP Events organiser Frank Venuto said the idea for the festival had been developing for four or five years.

“The idea for the Pyrenees Hideout Festival is something we had in the background while running the Rainbow Serpent Festival,” he said.

“We felt it was important to provide an event that was more suited to the local community’s tastes and interests.

Some of the event’s proceeds will be given to charity Rural and Remote Mental Health, of which News Corp, the owner of this publication, is a sponsor.

“It was quite fun doing the research and trying to put the line-up together,” Mr Venuto told the organisation.

“We ended up with some pretty good acts, we think.

“I just know bringing people together in an atmosphere where it’s quite carefree, good music, good people, just the opportunity to have a fun day – it’s hard to explain how much that does for wellbeing.

“The thing we’re clearly battling against is the isolation of the last few years and the cancellation of events and the impact that Covid had on a lot of people.”

Rural and Remote Mental Health CEO Joe Hooper said he was “honoured” to have been chosen as the festival’s charity.

“This festival is an opportunity for the community to connect, share, and enjoy together,” he said.

“We are honoured to be chosen as the charity of choice and share in this event while also raising donations and awareness to help support the mental health and wellbeing of the community.”

General admission tickets to the concert are available online and cost $95.

Entry for children between 12 and 17 years old costs $60, while those under 12 may enter for free.
