Fears are mounting for a Ballarat man who has now been missing for more than a week.

Gary, 74, from the suburb Golden Point vanished on the morning of September 20.

Detectives from Ballarat CIU have been able to track his movements for the rest of that day.

Gary – who has dementia – travelled by train to Southern Cross railway station and took a train to Marshall in Geelong.

He then rode a train back to Melbourne before travelling by rail to Shepparton where he was seen late in the day walking beside the Midland Highway.

There is nothing known after that.

Searches of the Ballarat and Golden Point area have been carried out in the past week, without success.

Gary is described as being of slim build with long grey hair tied in a ponytail. He usually wears a black beanie.

Anyone with information on his whereabouts can call Ballarat Police Station on 5336 6000.
