NBL1: Ballarat Miner Jalon Miller allegedly returns positive drug test

The NBL1 South competition has been rocked by a drugs saga after an American import allegedly tested positive at his previous club before coming to Australia.

The NBL1 South competition has been rocked after one of its imports allegedly returned a positive drug test.

The Ballarat Miners announced on the weekend that American Jalon Miller had been sanctioned by the German National Anti-Doping Agency for an alleged violation of its policy while playing in Europe earlier this year.

Miller arrived in Australia in May after signing for the Miners as a replacement for Shaquille Morris.

He now currently faces a two-year ban from the sport.

Basketball Ballarat chief executive Neville Ivey said the organisation would be seeking answers on the situation.

“The club makes every effort working with Basketball Australia and the League to ensure its players are free of any sanctions,” he said.

“Whilst we acknowledge that the decision has just been made by the German Anti-Doping Agency, it is disappointing that no advice was provided to indicate the matter was pending.”

Miller is alleged to have been in breach of Article 2.1 DD-ADC (congruent with Article 2.1 WADC).

He is therefore a sanctioned athlete and in accordance with Basketball Australia’s Anti-Doping Policy, is ineligible to participate in the sport in Australia.

As of Monday, Miller has already been removed as a player listed by the Miners on the club’s NBL1 South website.

The Miners sit 11th on the ladder with a record of 8-8 after going down to Frankston on the weekend.
