Big V Basketball: Youth League’s best players named

There is plenty of talent coming through the Victorian basketball ranks as the finals race in Big V action heats up. Here’s our top 40 young guns in the competition.

The talent pool in Victorian and Australian basketball is continuing to grow.

Throughout the season, players across the Big V competition have put themselves among the best young guns.

Here are our top 40.

Jake Afoa, Altona

One of the leading scorers in Youth League One Men with 22.5 points per game. Afoa carries a strong threat from deep.

Alahna Arnason, Pakenham

One of the key contributors the Warriors push for a place in finals action. She is averaging 13 points and 10.4 rebounds per game.

Emily Attard, Coburg

One of the rising stars of Coburg’s basketball program. She is averaging 18 points per game, 5.9 rebounds and three assists in 14 outings.

Campbell Blogg, Sandringham

The leading scorer in the Championship Men’s Division with an average of 20.2 points per game. Blogg has also proven to be a consistent threat from deep.

Eliana Bravington, Frankston

Consistently putting up big numbers to average a double-double so far this season.

Erin Burgoyne, Kilsyth

One of the most creative players in the competition having averaged 4.3 assists per game to go along with 10.1 points.

Millie Cracknell, Ballarat

One of two Ballarat young guns to feature in this list. Cracknell is averaging 15.1 points and 4.5 assists.

Annie Collins, Ballarat

The leading scorer in the Youth Championship division with 19.4 points per game. Collins has shown a fantastic ability to hit shots from deep.

Carley Cranston, Craigieburn

Clearly the leading scorer in the Youth League One Women’s competition with 23.5 points per game. The Eagles star is also averaging a league high 4.4 steals per game.

Dakota Crichton, Casey

A Victorian representative who is quickly making a name for herself at the elite level. Crichton has been in stunning form for the Cavaliers with over 18 points per game.

Olivia Dalmau, Wallan

Has shown an ability to do a bit of everything this season while averaging 16.4 points, 8.6 rebounds, 4.4 assists and 3.7 steals.

Christian D’Angelo, Nunawading

Enjoying a standout season at both ends of the floor for the Spectres averaging 19.6 points.

Jackson Dean, Camberwell

A player who can impact a game in a variety of different ways. Dean is his side’s leading scorer this season.

Jessica Del Brocco, Eltham

One of the leading passers in the competition with just over three assists per game. Has also proven to be a terrific defender.

Holly Dolny, Wyndham

Dolny is enduring a strong season for Wyndham in all facets of the game as her side pushes for a championship.

Jarred Fibishenko, Maccabi

Has enjoyed a strong season despite his side failing to win a game in Youth League Two with 21.9 points per game.

Jess Freeman, Wangaratta North East

Sits second in steals per game in the competition but has also shown a promising ability at the offensive end with 14.7 points per game.

Mason Gaze, Melbourne

The son of Australian basketball legend, Andrew, is enjoying a standout season at Youth Championship level. He has also stepped up to play some minutes in the NBL1 South team which is coached by his dad.

Grace Graham, Keilor

A key player in the Thunder’s run to having the equal best record in the competition alongside Nunawading at 17-3. Graham has impacted games in many different ways.

Oskar Jones, Wyndham

Jones has consistently shown he can step out and hit the three-ball in an impressive season for Wyndham.

Tom Koppens, Sandringham

Averaging a double-double in a season where he has also spent time with the Sabres in NBL1.

Sebastien Lees, Ringwood

The leading passer in the Youth Championship division with just under six assists a game. Can also score in bunches when required. Is also second in steals per game.

Tony Marchese, Casey

The Cavaliers leading scorer with 18.6 points per game, an average which ranks him fifth in the competition. He has started all 20 games which he has played.

Zak Martinez, Melton

Melton’s leading scorer but his game is about so much more as he has shown a fantastic ability on the defensive end.

Kayla Murphy, Warrandyte

Averaging a team-high 14.7 points per game despite Warrandyte enduring a difficult season so far.

Chase Page, Whittlesea

The leading scorer for the Pacers and in the competition with 22.8 points per game. He will soon move to the US for the college season.

Rex Page, Coburg

A big scorer for the Giants with an average of 20.2 points per game. He is also a player opponents need to try and keep off the boards.

Daniel Poelsma, Diamond Valley

A consistent threat at three levels and someone who can score in bunches highlighted by his 18 points a game.

Ben Perry, Frankston

Leads the Youth League One Men’s competition with 4.9 assists per game. But has shown he can also score with an average of 16.8 points.

Emma Povh, Hume

Povh is the Broncos leading scorer this season with 18.5 points per game. She has the ability to impact the game on the inside or outside.

Ryan Robinson, Bellarine

A finely balanced player who is one of the better two-way players at Youth League level.

Isabella Ryan, Whittlesea

Leading the Pacers with a team high 15.4 points point game and is also a strong presence on defence.

Georgia Salinger, Albury Wodonga

A key player in the Bandits push for success. She is currently averaging 15 points per game.

Daniel Salvatore, Sunbury

Doesn’t always need to put up big scoring numbers to have an impact on the game given his strong defensive presence.

Carly Sanders, Bellarine

Sanders has been a standout for the Youth League Two Women ladder leaders as she is averaging a double-double.

Harrison Sealey, Ringwood

Averaging 17.4 points per game but is able to bring teammates into the game with his wonderful passing as well.

Riley Simmons, Keysborough

Consistently a key contributor for the Cougars off the bench with 17.7 points and 3.2 assist per game.

Sam Veitch, Camberwell

Another Dragon who can make things tick with his tremendous passing ability. Currently averaging 4.6 assists a game.

Stephanie Wales, Nunawading

One of the most dominant players in the competition. Wales is averaging 19 points, 10.2 rebounds and 3.1 steals per game.

Jamieson Weddle, Eltham

Enjoying a strong season for Eltham averaging 13.7 points per game.
