A Victorian fiend who raped a woman the same night after she attended a funeral has been jailed.
Anthony Cain, 60, was sentenced in the County Court to a minimum two years and 10 months’ jail after he was found guilty of rape.
Cain raped his victim several years ago, the court was told.
The offending took place the same night the victim attended a funeral.
The victim tearfully read her victim impact statement to the court.
She said Cain was the “wolf in sheep’s clothing”.
“Little did I know I would dance with the devil,” she said.
“The panic … the regret, the anger, you stole ownership of my body and my mind … you raped me physically and mentally.
“I want to move forward … you stole my strength, you stole my past.”
The court heard Cain has been in a “solid and supportive” relationship for the past seven years.
Cain worked as a WorkSafe inspector for many years following the rape but ceased work after suffering a workplace injury, the court was told.
The court also received multiple references from friends and family.
Cain also set up a farm for at risk children located at in Western Victoria, the court was told.
Judge Damian Murphy jailed Cain for four years and nine months.
