A fundraiser for a family that tragically lost their baby boy last week has raised more than $23,000 in just three days.

Ballarat man Aaron McKay set up a fundraiser for his friend John Boreland and his wife Tyllah, from Gippsland, after their four-month-old Beau Kevin Boreland died on August 28.

Beau was also a brother to Noah.

“No family should ever have to go through a tragedy like this and it’s my hope to take the burden off the family by raising money to help with the cost of the funeral,” Mr McKay wrote.

“Let’s get behind and support John, Tyllah, and Noah as they take the time that they need to mourn the loss of their precious baby boy.”

Mr McKay met Mr Boreland through pigeon racing.

“John is not only a great mate but he is also a fellow pigeon fancier who has always been supportive of fundraisers and sales and is always the type to be there to help anyone in need,” he said.

On Monday, he added that it was “very, very tough times” for the Borelands and thanked people for their “incredible” generosity so far.

“It doesn’t take away the pain, but helps with the cost of the funeral and all of that,” he said.
