‘My bed is on fire’: 7-year-old Hoppers Crossing girl Grace saves her family from house fire

A brave 8-year-old Hoppers Crossing girl has saved her whole family from a house fire after their fire alarms failed to go off.

A brave 8-year-old Hoppers Crossing girl has saved her whole family from a house fire after their fire alarms failed to go off.

Grace’s mum Krystal Knowles said her daughter came running into her bedroom at 1am on August 23.

“She was just yelling ‘my bed is on fire’,” she said.

“I was half asleep and rushed into her room … her bed was on fire.

“I could see the flames so I grabbed Grace and her twin brother and just ran out of the unit.”

Ms Knowles said by the time her family made it out of the house, it was completely alight.

“Most of the unit was already up in flames,” she said.

“We pretty much lost everything but I am so proud of my little girl for saving us.”

Firefighters told Ms Knowles the fire began due to an electrical fault in the wall.

“I did’t wake up myself because our fire alarms did not go off.”

7-year-old Grace was heralded at her school assembly for being a hero.

“At school they have been learning all about fire safety and Grace did everything right the way she was taught,” Ms Knowles said.

Ms Knowles’s family started a GoFundMe for the young family to help them rebuild.

“I am just so thankful for everyone who has helped us after the fire,” she said.
