A man who runs a popular Ballarat social media page facing charges of assault and destroying property is expected to enter pleas at his next court appearance.
No pleas were taken when Matthew Morris of Alfredton appeared in the Ballarat Magistrates’ Court on Thursday via a prison link for mention.
The 46-year-old — who runs the Ballarat News Team Facebook page with 32,000 followers — is facing charges of assault, making a threat to destroy property and destroying property.
He allegedly destroyed the $1810 turning signal of a BMW in Ballarat on November 23, 2024 and threw a stone at a property on the same day.
His lawyer and the prosecution both asked the court to adjourn the matter until July 24 as both parties were still in discussions about certain legal matters.
Their request was granted and the magistrate said he expected Mr Morris to enter a plea to the charges at his next court appearance on July 24.
Mr Morris first appeared in Ballarat Magistrates’ Court on March 31 and was remanded in custody.
His Facebook page was called Ballarat Crime Watch in 2018, Ballarat Crime Watch/News in 2021, and was changed to Ballarat News Team in 2021.
No posts have been made on the page since March 21.
