Man arrested after stolen car gets bogged near Ballarat

Police have made a dramatic arrest following a high-speed chase after an alleged hoon stole a car and got bogged in bushland near Ballarat.

Police arrested a car thief who got bogged in bushland north of Ballarat.

Early Thursday morning, police saw a stolen silver Mitsubishi Pajero driving on Humffray Street North in Ballarat and gave pursuit.

The car was stolen on September 14, and police have alleged it has been linked to several offences.

Police called in the police helicopter to track the stolen vehicle from above.

The man tried to escape by driving through muddy bush tracks in Nerrina.

The police chopper watched as the man’s car got bogged near Church’s and Hearne roads in Nerrina.

Police on the ground were able to track down the car and arrested a 29-year-old Ballarat East Man.

Police charged the man with theft of a motor vehicle, theft from a motor vehicle and handling stolen goods.

He was bailed to appear before Ballarat Magistrates Court on May 25 2022.
