New approach needed to improve road safety

A man from the Grampians region died in a single-car crash in Central Victoria at the weekend.

Emergency services attended the scene on Maryborough-St Arnaud Rd in Rathscar about 12.15pm Sunday.

Police said reports indicated a ute left the road and crashed into a tree.

The 53-year-old driver was killed.

Police will prepare a report for the Coroner.

Fifty-nine people have died on Victoria roads since the beginning of 2023, compared with 46 at the same time last year.
