It only took 10 minutes for a young family to lose everything after barely escaping a heart-wrenching house fire on Christmas morning.
Alexandra Catsicakis and Sean Murray woke in the early hours to the terrifying fire in their Learmonth home.
“I couldn’t see anything, just smoke and flames,” Ms Catsicakis said.
Little Victoria never got to open her Christmas presents which were lost in the fire, however local police saved the day after they provided a care package of toys and presents.
Ms Catsicakis said the Learmonth and Ballarat community had shown “amazing” support for the family, organising donations of clothes and supplies.
Mr Murray ran to grab their six-year-old daughter, Victoria, and fled the burning home.
He then tried to run back inside to find their pet cat and dog but couldn’t see anything through the smoke.
The house was “pretty much gone” in 10 minutes, Ms Catsicakis said.
The family’s dog has since been found, but their cat is still missing.
“Our daughter is so worried ... hopefully he got out,” Ms Catsicakis said.
The couple is now raising money through GoFundMe to help them find a new home and start rebuilding their lives, already raising more than $5000 of their $50,000 target.
