A Melbourne tradesman threatened to taser a baby after he used “degrading” language to verbally harass and terrorise multiple people.

Frankston bricklayer Ricky Moorhead, 34, faced Ballarat Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, having pleaded guilty to threatening to inflict serious injury and threatening to damage property.

The court heard that in May this year, Moorhead showed up at a person’s house, seemingly in a “heavily drug-affected state”, and verbally abused the occupant.

“I’m going to smash you,” he told them.

“You’re a pedophile and a dog, you f–king dog.”

In the same month, Moorhead phoned another person and left voice messages verbally abusing them and threatening to damage them and their property.

Moorhead appeared in Ballarat Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday.

Once arrested, Moorhead damaged a bench in his police cell by marking it, calling someone a “dog”.

In September, Moorhead went to a pub with a third person, gave them money for the pokies, and then claimed the person robbed him.

“I’m going to taser your baby,” he said in a message to them.

Moorhead then showed up at the person’s home armed with a taser as multiple children were present.

Police later arrested him and found the taser along with three cartridges in his possession.

Moorhead said he had little memory of the incident as he was intoxicated.

The court heard Moorhead was introduced to drugs at a young age, was dealing with multiple longstanding addictions, and was taking ice and heroin daily at the time of his offending.

It was told he was “trying [his] hardest to be the best man [he] can be”.

Magistrate Michelle Mykytowycz said the language used in his messages was “degrading” and “harassing”.

Moorhead was convicted and sentenced to an 18-month community correction order.
