A fire has broken out at a country pub, with multiple emergency vehicles rushing to the scene.

Firefighters were called to Pearsons Rd and James Lane in Trentham East about 9.10am, where a chimney fire started at what is understood to be the Pig and Whistle Hotel.

At least seven firefighting vehicles initially responded, including units from Trentham, Woodend, and Spring Hill.

The scene was deemed under control at 9.35am and safe at 9.47am.

Powercor, Victoria Police, and Ambulance Victoria were also present.

Pig and Whistle owner Eammon Hamilton said a build-up of soot in the chimney caught fire, but that nobody was hurt.

The pub remains open.
