Ballarat is set to transform into a sports lover’s paradise later this year.
The town is set to host not but three one national championships in April.
From April 7 to 9, Lake Wendouree will host the national canoe polo championships for the first time.
The sport is like water polo but with canoes and held on large areas of water.
ACT last year won the men’s open title with Queensland and SA winning the mixed and under-18s events respectively.
The other two events, held later in the month, will see Ballarat host the 3x3 basketball national titles and the Australian Ultimate Frisbee Championships.
The 3x3 title is back in the region, at Selkirk Stadium, from April 21 to 22 after Ballarat hosted it last year after installing the required courts at the start of 2021.
The Ultimate Frisbee Championships will be held from April 22 to 25 at Victoria Park with the venue to also host the Victorian Disc Golf Championships from April 22 to 23 in two major events to the area.
City of Ballarat Councillor, Ben Taylor, said the events would bring major benefits to the city from an economic point of view and aligns with their plans for the city.
“It’s so important to show that we are open to a diversity of sporting events in Ballarat,” he said.
“As important as the mainstream sports are to the city, there is so much more that we are capable of hosting and highlighting.
“Whether it’s flying frisbees in Victoria Park, clashing canoes on Lake Wendouree or the spectacular 3x3 basketball, it’s going to be an incredible few weeks.”
The events come with Ballarat also hosting the Australian SuperEnduro Championship, which will be hosted next Saturday, February 25 at the showgrounds.
