A Ballarat high school friendship group has rallied around one beloved member after she received the worst news imaginable.

Liv Renga, 33, was told she has a very rare and aggressive type of cancer.

She was diagnosed with incurable neuroendocrine small cell carcinoma after falling ill last year.

Mrs Renga, who has a husband and three young daughters, is described by her friends as a selfless and incredible person.

“She is the first person to drop everything and help someone out when they need it,” friend Jess Miller said.

“Liv is an incredible mother and wife as well as an amazing friend.”

Jess Miller met Liv in high school at Mt Clear College in Ballarat, along with their other friends Jessica Van Rooy and Jacinta Bradshaw.

The group of four have matching tattoos and countless memories from overseas holidays together.

After her diagnosis, the group set up a GoFundMe for Liv to help her family through the difficult time.

“Liv has been fighting this all while parenting her daughters, 4-year-old Neve and 18-month-old twins Wilkie and Elliot alongside her husband, Josh,” Ms Miller said.

“We want to alleviate some financial pressure as they are faced with having a single income and also use the funds for any treatments that may become available in the future.”

The friends are also using the GoFundMe to raise awareness for Liv’s rare type of cancer.

“Liv really wants to spread the word about neuroendocrine small cell carcinoma and help to raise awareness for more research into the disease,” Ms Miller said.

“It is so rare and there are so many unknowns around treatments and care.”
