A 32-year-old has been charged with murder after allegedly killing a 70-year-old Ballarat man with a knife in his home during a burglary gone wrong.

A knife-wielding man allegedly murdered a 70-year-old Ballarat man in his home during a burglary gone wrong, homicide detectives allege.
Baden McKinnon, 32, of Gordon, faced Ballarat Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday charged with the murder of Phillip John Lewis, 70, in his Alfredton home on Monday.
Police were called to the home on Wensleydale Dr and found Mr Lewis dead just before 9am.
A 32-year-old man was arrested at the scene and was charged on Tuesday morning after a night in the police cells.
Mr McKinnon has also been charged with entering Mr Lewis’ home with a knife and “intent to assault”.
No application for bail was made and the accused remains in custody ahead of a committal mention on September 30.
It’s understood the pair were not known to each other.
Several evidence bags were carried from the home as loved ones were seen consoling each other near the garage.
