An alleged car thief has allegedly fled the scene of a multi-vehicle crash in Collingwood, despite sustaining serious injuries.
Police confirmed a Black BMW X3 and a grey Toyota collided at the intersection of Langridge St and Brown St just before 2am on Tuesday, August 2.
The collision caused both cars to hit the Langridge St warehouse entrance of “trend ladies fashion” wholesaler Alive Girl, causing superficial damage.
The BMW was allegedly stolen from an address in Williamstown earlier in the evening.
The BMW driver, a 36-year-old Carlton man, allegedly fled the crash scene before police arrested him nearby.
He was taken to hospital with serious injuries.
The Toyota driver, a 38-year-old Flemington man, was not injured, but both cars involved were extensively damaged.
A police spokesman said the exact circumstances of the collision were yet to be determined and the investigation was ongoing.
Alive Girl staff said CCTV footage from a nearby business showed one car allegedly speeding south on Cromwell St before being struck from the side by a car travelling west along Langridge St.
Staff said the car travelling south was allegedly travelling in the wrong direction down the one-way street.
They said the other driver did not appear to be at fault.
