Northeast Victoria is blessed with beautiful wine regions, from Rutherglen and Beechworth to the King Valley.
With international travel off the cards due to the coronavirus pandemic, now is the time to get out and explore the best wineries on offer in our own backyard.

Campbells Wines

Located on the Murray Valley Highway, Rutherglen, Campbell Wines is celebrating its 150th anniversary in 2020.

Owned and operated by fourth and fifth generation winemakers, the Campbell family has no shortage of expertise when it comes to making beautiful wines.

The family’s philosophy is to “maximise and protect the natural fruit flavours that Rutherglen so reliably provides”.

Gapsted Wines

Located near Myrtleford in Victoria’s Alpine Valley, Gapsted Wines produces innovative wine varieties including Fiano and Saperavi, as well as classic styles such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Chardonnay.

Gapsted Wines was named the Best Large Cellar Door, Food & Additional Experience by Gourmet Traveller Wine in 2020.

A descendant of George Francis Morris, one of Australia’s most renowned vignerons of the mid-19th century, owner of Scion Wine Rowly Milhinch is a self-taught winemaker.

Established in Rutherglen in 2002, Scion began with the planting of an eight-acre vineyard of varietals synonymous with Rutherglen including Durif, Shiraz and Muscat.

Indigo Vineyard

Located in the foothills of the Victorian Alps in Beechworth, Indigo Vineyard was established in 1997, producing their first vintage in 2000.

For owner Rob Hawkings, growing superb grapes is at the core of the business.

Enjoy a special cellar door experience tasting up to eight wines while you sit and enjoy a tasting plate, or go for a walk or mountain bike ride through the scenic property.

Pennyweight Winery

Owned by fourth and fifth generation winemakers from the Morris family, Pennyweight is a small tradition winery.

It comprises two certified organic, biodynamic, dry land vineyards situated in the Beechworth and Rutherglen wine regions, producing a range of solely estate grown table and fortified wines including apera (sherry).

Eldorado Road Wines

One of the regions hidden gems, Eldorado Road Wines is the passion of two vignerons- Paul Dahlenburg (Bear) and Lauretta Schulz (Laurie).

After purchasing a run down vineyard in Glenrowan, which was planted with Shiraz, the pair brought the vineyard back to life, planting small parcels of Durif and Nero d‘Avola.

Gracebrook Vineyards was established by David and Rhonda Maples in 1989.

The vineyard is planted to merlot, shiraz, riesling, cabernet sauvignon, sangiovese, chardonnay, dolcetto, sagrantino and savagnin, plus trial rows of moscato giallo, muscadelle, muscat blanc, cabernet franc, muscat rouge, and grechetto.

The cellar door is based within the historic Gracebrook Stables, which were built in the 1880s.

La Cantina was established by Gino Corsini and his son Peter in 1980, when they planted the first vines in their Myrtleford property.

The family started off growing grapes for the Brown Brothers in Milawa before establishing their own label in 1995.

La Cantina produces traditional, preservative free, wines with varieties including Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Saperavi, along with Italian varietals Pinot Grigio, Dolcetto, Sangiovese, Nebbiolo and Barbera.

Pizzini Wines

The first vines at Pizzini Wines were planted in 1978 as Alfredo and Katrina Pizzini embraced their passion and commitment to the Pizzini family’s Italian heritage.

The first wine under the Pizzini label was produced in 1994.

Today Alfredo and Katrina’s four adult children work along side them at the Whitfield winery to produce wine from varieties including Sangiovese, Pinot Grigio, Brachetto, Nebbiolo and Prosecco.
