An Albury passenger has been convicted after she refused to tell police who was driving a car which rammed into police in January.

Tessa Lee Hennessy, 29, was sentenced in Albury Local Court on Monday for not naming the driver of a car which rammed into a police vehicle because she didn’t want to get herself into “more trouble”.

Court documents reveal on January 8, 2022, Hennessy was the front passenger in the unregistered sedan.

Police saw the vehicle drive into the underground car park at Myer Centrepoint in Albury.

When they spotted the vehicle, the driver reversed into a carpark against a wall, and parked in front of it.

Police saw a male driver, female passenger and other passengers in the back seat.

The male driver drove his car into the side of the police car, ramming it several times until the car slid and the driver drove away at “high speed”.

Police later found the abandoned car in Wodonga.

On March 10, Hennessy was arrested for an unrelated matter, but was confirmed as the passenger of the vehicle which rammed the cop car.

She refused to identify the driver and other passengers, stating “I don’t want to cause myself more trouble with these people”.

Hennessy was sentenced to a nine-month community corrections order and fined $800 for not disclosing the driver or other passengers without a reasonable excuse.

Magistrate Sally McLaughlin said she felt Hennessy was “spending time with people who are going to get (her) in this kind of trouble”.
