The Smith Street Band is hitting the road for the national tour of its latest studio album, and the first stop is the border city.

The Melbourne-based band, who secured a spot in the Triple J Hottest 100 of 2022, will perform in the regional city of Albury for the first time on February 18.

The band’s bass guitarist Michael “Fitzy” Fitzgerald told the Herald Sun the band was excited to be playing at the Border.

“We can’t wait to play in Albury —people have been asking us to play in Albury for years,” he said.

“Every time, we’ve almost organised a show, and it hasn’t worked out, so I’m really looking forward to playing in Albury for the first time.”

The tour kicks off in the border city before taking on other cities across Victoria, Queensland, South Australia, Tasmania, the ACT and WA.

Mr Fitzgerald said bringing live Australian music to the regions was important.

“A lot of kids that grow up in regional towns don’t get as much exposure to rock music, and sometimes when they grow up and go off to uni or the city, that’s when they start playing in bands,” he said.

The Smith Street Band‘s sixth studio album ’Life After Football’ is recorded in the band’s solar-powered studio, mixed by Anton Hagop (Silverchair, Powderfinger, Missy Higgins) and mastered by George Georgidias.

The Smith Street band has brought its live rock music to regional towns multiple times before.

Mr Fitzgerald said he prefered playing in the regions over the big smoke.

“It’s great playing big shows in the city, where everybody’s going crazy with over 1000 people. But I like doing smaller, more intimate shows in the regions — it’s a great way to see the country,” he said

“I love doing regional shows because it’s like going on holidays; travelling around means you get a bit of time to check out places you might not see.”

He said it could be challenging for bands to pull the same crowd in the regions as the big cities but being on the radio attracted more people to performances.

The album features the singles‘ I Don’t Wanna Do Nothing Forever’, which landed RAGE’s Feature Video.

“Life After Football” also saw the band land on a stack of streaming playlists and score Triple J Feature Album.

The Smith Street Band will perform at SS&A Albury in the city‘s heart on February 18.

“We are keen to play with you,” Mr Fitzgerald said.

“For all the people asking us to come for years, it‘s finally happening, and we can’t wait.” To book your tickets: click here
