A man who tragically lost his young son to a brain tumour several years ago has been killed in a car crash with his mate in a horrific Boxing Day accident.
Emergency services were called to Chiltern-Rutherglen Rd at about 9.15pm on Sunday after a car crash near Whistler Track which claimed the lives of Sam Elsom, 30, and Sean Scott, 36.
Sam’s father, Lindsay Elsom said “it’s been like hell” since his son was killed.
“He was a good kid. He was a bloke that never stayed in one place, and was always willing to help anyone out in any way or form,’’ he said.
“He was always willing to get things right for people.”
Mr Elsom said Sam loved his job working at a dairy farm.
Mr Elsom, who was looking after Sam’s nine-year-old daughter, Ruby, in Warracknabeal said:
“He was a lovely and caring person to everyone, and to all his close friends, thank you for being a close friend to him.
“We will always love him.”
Lochlan Nixon lived across the road from Sean and would spend “pretty much every day together”.
“He was a good man, hard working and loyal. He had a massive heart and had a lotta love for me as I did for him,’’ he said.
“He was with me before he left and it crushes me that he is gone, I am sending love to his mum and dad and to Sam’s family and friends.
“He was a brother, a friend, a family member and it’s hard knowing he won’t be coming back.
“I’m gonna miss you brother.”
Sam’s ex-partner Jen Sawyer said deep down he had a heart of gold.
“Even though we had recently separated he always said that he would be my “forever man”. “He and I had our differences but we will always have that special connection in our hearts,” Ms Sawyer said.
Tanny Jay, Sam’s former roommate from 2018, said he shared many fun moments with his friend.
“He was always there for me and always willing to help others when they needed it, he was like a brother to me and I’m so sad to see that he’s gone,’’ Tanny said,
“R.I.P Sam my little buddy, I’m glad I got to chat to you the other week … I’ll miss ya face, fly high mate.”
Sam tragically lost a son in 2017.
He wrote to Facebook on April 26:
“R.I.P. Braxton Adam Elsom. My baby boy. I’m missing you every day, there is not a day that goes by that I don’t think about you. You will always be in my heart. Braxton Elsom passed away on Wednesday the 26th of July 2017 at 8:00pm. My life has not been the same since Drax passed away, but I have to put my head up for Drax. I know now he is not in pain. He is in the best place.
“R.I.P my baby boy, dad loves you until the day I die.”
Investigators are working to establish the circumstances surrounding the crash.
