A Queensland driver has allegedly caused havoc on Wangaratta roads, causing multiple collisions and forcing cars to swerve to avoid an accident.
The 40-year-old will face court on Friday charged with more than 20 offences including reckless conduct endangering life and driving in a dangerous manner.
Victoria Police Sergeant Julie-Anne Newman said police were alerted to the erratic driving through Wangaratta’s main streets through multiple Triple Zero calls after 5pm Thursday.
“A 4WD towing trailer was involved in multiple collisions and incidents where the driver was seen to cross onto the wrong side of the road allegedly, reportedly ran red lights and was involved in several near misses,” she said.
The collisions occurred in Parfitt, Greta and Riley roads, Hanley and Mason streets and the Hume Freeway.
The driver was arrested by police after he allegedly fled from his vehicle and was spotted walking along the freeway.
“Many vehicles were forced to swerve from the road to avoid hitting the man, including a B-double which had to come to a complete stop,” Sergeant Newman said.
The man was also charged with possessing a drug of dependence and the possession of imitation firearms and gel blasters.
Officers are appealing for any witnesses or anyone with dashcam vision who hasn‘t already spoken to police to come forward.
