An Albury man has sent two threatening letters to a former friend after their 25 year friendship ended in a falling out.

A drunk Albury man threatened his former mate of 25 years with a car bomb, a court has heard.

Philip Michael Duncan appeared in Albury Local Court on Monday, representing himself, after he pleaded guilty to one charge of stalk/intimidate to cause fear or physical harm.

“I had a falling out with my friend years ago,” Duncan told the court.

“I got a bit drunk and went around to see him.”

Court documents reveal the 39-year-old went to his former friend’s South Albury home at about 2pm on March 3.

Despite not seeing or hearing from Duncan in years, the victim recognised him straight away and yelled at his former friend to leave.

Duncan obliged but the victim said he could hear the offender yelling down the street.

The accused later returned to his former friend’s residence and put a handwritten letter in the mailbox.

The letter read: “… you can go f--- yourself. Do you f------ understand?! I will see you at some stage.”

The letter was found by the victim’s partner about 6pm.

Duncan returned the same day with another hand written threat: “Car bomb! You got it?!”

The victim found the note the next day and took both letters to the police.

Court documents state Duncan is an alcoholic and admitted to police he makes poor decisions while intoxicated.

Magistrate Richard Funston said Duncan’s behaviour was very “serious”.

Duncan was fined $400 for the offence.
