Ovens and Murray: VFL best and fairest Harry Jones joins Wodonga

A recently crowned VFL club best and fairest has headlined three new arrivals at an Ovens and Murray club determined to move up the ladder.

They say good things come in threes and Wodonga will be hoping that’s the case with its new signings — headlined by a VFL best and fairest.

The Ovens and Murray club have announced the return of 2021 North Melbourne best and fairest Harry Jones with the 22-year-old set to pull on Bulldogs colours when VFL commitments allow.

Jones linked up with the Kangaroos for the Covid impacted VFL season and averaged 29 disposals a year after he was delisted by Hawthorn.

Bulldogs fans were given a glimpse of what to expect from Jones after he played one game against Lavington earlier in the season where he was named in the best.

A statement from Wodonga said they were “ecstatic” to welcome him back to the club.

“We are looking forward to having Harry back in the Bulldog colours when VFL duties at North Melbourne in 2022 allow,” the statement said.

“His leadership and direction will be great for our exciting list.”

Joining the former Hawk at the Bulldogs will be Matt Wilson who crosses from Finley in the Murray league.

Despite being just 21, Wilson captained the Cats in 2021 and has a connection to his new club’s coach, Jordan Taylor.

It is expected he will spend time in the midfield and up forward.

“Jordan believes Matt will be a great addition to the Kennel in 2022 and beyond with his desire to play at a higher level,” a club statement said.

“Matt has relocated to Wodonga and is looking forward to starting his Ovens and Murray career.”

Meanwhile, Reed Jackson is set to return to the club after having a year off in 2021.

The club said they expect him to “slot right back into where he left off before his break.”

Jackson is also a former Wodonga junior.

Wodonga finished eighth on the ladder this season.
