The tragic truth about road deaths in Australia

A Myrtleford father has been tragically killed trying to flag down another vehicle for help at a crash near Wangaratta on Wednesday.

It is understood a car rolled on Yarrabee Road at Markwood just before 12.30pm.

Investigators have been told Lachlan Pearson, 47 of Myrtleford, gestured for a car to pull over, which stopped.

A third vehicle then came around a bend and had to swerve around the second car, hitting and killing Mr Pearson.

In an emotional tribute to her husband, Michelle Pearson said he was the love of her life.

“... my best friend, my right hand man, my other half, my husband... gone in the blink of an eye,” she wrote on social media.

Amanda Wood wrote: “It’s really not fair at all. He will be missed by so many. A true gentle giant that had the biggest heart of gold (and) would do anything for anyone.”

Jane Dunnell said she hoped Mr Pearson’s loved ones could “take comfort in knowing that in his short time in this life, he was loved, truly and honestly loved”.

Rick Schaefer added he was a “great bloke” who was “always willing to lend a hand.”

The female driver of the car stopped at the scene and is helping police with their enquiries.
