Bullets explode inside house destroyed by fire near Albury

Emergency services were forced to retreat after bullets inside a burning Bethanga home started exploding.

Emergency services were forced to retreat when ammunition started exploding from a fully engulfed house fire in Bethanga, east of Albury.

A CFA spokesman said authorities responded to reports a house on Breadmore St was on fire at 10.53am on Thursday.

On arrival, crews found the home engulfed in flames.

Shortly after bullets started exploding from inside the house and an exclusion zone was set up.

“It’s understood there was nobody in the house at the time,” A CFA spokesman said.

Authorities declared the scene under control at 11.25am.

Seven CFA vehicles were on scene late Thursday afternoon.

Investigators are continuing.
