Police have arrested a man over the alleged shooting death of Albury father Duwayne Johnson on January 16.
A 25-year-old Wodonga man was arrested in Ascot Vale on Friday night, police confirmed.
The man is currently assisting police with their enquiries.
It comes after the family of the slain Albury father urged anyone responsible for his killing to hand themselves into police.
Mr Johnson, 26, was shot at a house in Wodonga in the early hours of Sunday morning before being run down by a car.
Earlier, speaking to Leader news, Mr Johnson’s older brother Clancy Charles said he was yet to piece together the event of the night, and urged anyone with information to speak with detectives from the homicide squad.
“Just come forward with information, and whoever did it, just hand yourself in,” he said.
He said his brother’s death had caused “a lot of pain” among his extended family and friends.
“We will never get over it,” he said.
Mr Charles said his family trusted police to bring his brother’s killer, or killers, to justice and was trying not to think about about what might have happened on late Saturday night and early Sunday morning.
“We’d drive ourselves mad thinking about how, or what happened,” he said.
Homicide squad detectives were called to a home Woodland St, Wodonga, about 3am on Sunday morning where they found Mr Johnson fatally injured in the street.
He died at the scene.
Mr Johnson’s death has shocked his close-knit family, members of which said he “never hurt no one”.
“(He) will be missed dearly,” a family member wrote in one of dozens of online tributes since news spread of Mr Johnson’s death.
Mr Johnson was reportedly shot at close range, with a shotgun, before being run over in the street.
Mr Johnson has extended family in Albury-Wodonga and Griffith, NSW.
The doting young dad leaves behind four children, the youngest of whom is just four months old.
Among the dozens of tributes for Mr Johnson — known to mates as “The Rock” — family member Marion Monaghan wrote on Sunday: “As the day passes it’s getting harder … I want this to be a bad dream. How can someone just take you away like this?”
But some members of Mr Johnson’s inner circle have been openly discussing “retaliations”, prompting fears of further bloodshed.
“Shine bright and fly high, retaliations a must bra,” a close friend wrote.
As of Tuesday morning, police were yet to make any arrests over the shooting.
Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
