Police are investigating a suspicious house fire in Albury’s North.
Neighbours on Captain Cook Dr, in Glenroy, called the authorities just after midnight after they heard alarms go off and saw flames.
Fire and Rescue NSW attended and extinguished the blaze and contained the fire to one room.
“The home was vacant at the time, and there are no reports of injury,” a police spokesman said.
Neighbour Greg Jones said there was a lot of smoke coming from the house.
“I was watching the television when I heard sirens go off and then saw a lot of smoke and flames,” Mr Jones said.
“The house has been vacant for over four months.”
The smell of smoke from the government housing property remained strong on Thursday.
Another neighbour, who wished to not be name,d told the Herald Sun he heard music coming from the backyard before the fire started.
“I saw four teenagers in the backyard just before midnight, before the fire. They were playing music on their phones,” he said.
“They [kids] always find vacant houses like this.”
The suspicious fire is being investigated by Murray River Police District, who have established a crime scene and commenced an investigation into the cause of the fire.
