A Wodonga thug caused more than $100,000 in damages during a daring ram-raid using a stolen truck to steal a TAFE’s ATM.
Ayden Walsh, 24, pleaded guilty to charges including car theft, burglary and destruction of property in Wodonga County Court.
An unknown co-offender stole a Kia Tray truck from a driveway in Wodonga about 1am on May 11 2019.
Court documents reveal he picked up Walsh before smashing through the TAFE’s cafeteria doors about 5am.
They then used a snatch strap to tie a Hume Bank ATM to the truck before speeding off, ripping it off the wall.
The thieves rammed it with the truck to split it open and take the cash.
A total of $6710 was stolen from the ATM and $120,000 in damages was caused to the building.
Both offenders fled the scene and abandoned the truck in nearby bushland.
Walsh was arrested in August 2019 and when interview by police, admitted to his role in the theft but said his accomplice was largely responsible for the crime.
He also admitted to being high on ice and Xanax at the time.
Judge Micahel Cahill said he was prepared to accept that Walsh’s accomplice, who had not been caught, was the primary offender.
Judge Cahill had Walsh assessed for a community corrections order on Tuesday and extended his bail until he is sentenced in September.
