Tough laws put the brakes on drink drivers

Under the nation’s toughest drink-driving laws, an average of four Victorian drivers a day between May to December last year had their licences suspended after recording a blood alcohol reading of between 0.05 and 0.069.

Authorities warned of power shortage before outages

Energy Minister Lily D’Ambrosio was “confident” Victoria had enough power on January 25, less than two hours before the lights at 200,000 homes and businesses went out. Reports now show warnings predicted a critical supply shortage.

Family facing deportation fights to stay

An Irish couple whose family application for permanent residency was rejected because their Australia-born son, Darragh, is considered a “burden” to the healthcare system will be allowed to stay in Australia until their fate is decided.
