Breakfast radio host Christian O’Connell had to call in sick to his top rating radio show this morning after an “embarrassing” accident.
Just a week after returning for 2021, the Gold FM host had to take the day off after running into a solid glass reinforced door at the house of a friend of his daughter’s on Monday night.
“Split my nose open, saw stars, blood everywhere,” he says.
“I got zero sympathy from the kids. The last thing you want is your parents to embarrass you like that.”
O’Connell now has a bump and plaster on his nose, but thankfully no broken bones.
“I’ve just had an awful headache and feeling sick. The doctor said don’t go to work and rest up, but I’ll be back tomorrow,” he says.
The British radio star has had his fair share of ups and down since moving to Melbourne three years ago to take up the gig at Gold.
A much-loved radio star in the UK with a regular audience of 2.5 million listeners, O’Connell, 47, decided to throw it all in after 12 years at one of the top rating national breakfast shows for new challenges in a market that had never heard of him.
Listeners to their time to accept the then unknown UK radio ring-in, but his unique blend of honesty and humour have subsequently seen him soar to the top of Melbourne’s competitive FM breakfast slot.
