New footy bride Chloe Pink has revealed the heartbreaking toll of awful and demeaning comments on her wedding pictures which left her crying for days.
Pink, who secretly wed North Melbourne defender Toby Pink last month, said the trolling on body shape and appearance had to stop.
“I read the comments and they were thick and fast coming in, and I just spent I think three days straight crying,’’ Chloe said.
“Initially Toby was like ‘no way’. He just sat there in silence for a good day and he was like I am so sorry.
“My wedding day was the first day where I’ve actually felt truly beautiful. My mum has been crying all week. She said you looked beautiful, you felt beautiful. I truly did. Even when I uploaded the photos I didn’t question if I looked fat, I didn’t question if I looked ugly, I didn’t question my appearance, I felt so beautiful.”
Pink spoke to KIIS FM’s Will and Woody on radio after the Herald Sun reported on the situation.
“Toby’s first point was we need to teach our children better, we need to educate our sons and our daughters that we need to stop talking about people’s bodies,’’ Chloe said.
“Talk about what their bodies can do, not what they look like.
“Unfortunately it was older men, it’s the truth, it sucks, and we just say that’s who it is, it’s just that generation. That’s another opportunity for doing better, calling it out.
“These women are sticking up for me but it’s not the women making the comments. It’s not going to stop if we’re not calling it out.”
Chloe called out the comments initially on social media.
“It’s honestly not OK,’’ she said.
“The comments were so vile and disgusting. All because I don’t fit the typical “WAG” mould.
“Being married to a professional athlete does not give anyone the right to comment on my body or size. My weight is influenced by underlying health conditions — though frankly, that’s no one’s business, and it shouldn’t matter either way.”
Pink, who works full time in the renewable energy and infrastructure industry as a resource co-ordinator, shared all her wedding joy with the Herald Sun.
The couple, who have been together for seven years, decided to get married one day at the courthouse and had a beautiful celebration with family and friends after.
“It’s exhausting that women are still being judged like this,’’ Chloe said.
“Being the wife of an AFL player doesn’t mean I owe the world a particular body type.
“My husband loves me for who I am — and god forbid a professional athlete chooses to marry the woman he loves for who she is and not her appearance.”
Pink has been inundated with messages of support.
