The temporary move of The Footy Show to 7.30pm brought no joy for Channel 9 last night.
The reboot came a dismal fifth in its timeslot – even murdered by a Jack the Ripper documentary on SBS.
Meanwhile The Front Bar, which screened at 8.30pm posted its best figure so far this year.
The Footy Show averaged 93,000 viewers in Melbourne – up from last week’s dire 63,000 but nowhere near good enough to trouble shows on rival networks.
WHY NINE’S UPDATED SHOWS AREN’T WORKING
Home and Away on Seven averaged 194,000 viewers and Bachelor in Paradise on Ten had 140,000.
The ABC’s 7.30 (170,000) also easily beat The Footy Show as did SBS documentary Jack the Ripper: The Case Reopened (102,000).
The Footy Show going to the earlier slot also gifted The Front Bar some extra viewers.
Seven’s show with Andy Maher, Mick Molloy and Sam Pang and guest Nathan Buckley averaged 287,000 – its best figure of 2019.
Nine had secretly hoped that The Footy Show would thrive in 7.30pm slot away from The Front Bar but last night’s figures have dashed that dream.
The Footy Show’s future now seems particularly perilous because there doesn’t seem to be any prime time slot where it can thrive.
