The Footy Show is moving to a new timeslot this Thursday night in what could be a last hurrah to finding a new audience.

The new-look show has struggled in the ratings, pulling in a mere 63,000 viewers in Melbourne last week.

In comparison The Front Bar has consistently had ratings numbers around 250,000.

Although Channel 9 are saying it's a one-off 7.30pm special, the figures will be looked at closely on Friday.

Episode one attracted 193,000 viewers in Melbourne but few could have envisaged that number dropping by as much as it has.

At 7.30pm The Footy Show will go up against Home And Away and Bachelor in Paradise in a strategic programming move.

Nine is desperate for the show to work with the new crew of Anthony ‘Lehmo’ Lehmann, Brendan Fevola, Dylan Alcott, Neroli Meadows and Shane Crawford.

After it fell to 96,000 viewers at the end of last month, a Nine spokesperson told Confidential:

“The Footy Show is an important and valued part of our schedule and we know as the audience sample it, they will stick with it.”

When Eddie McGuire was at the helm along with Sam Newman the show was still raking in 100,000 viewers.

Newman, who is filming segments for the Sunday Footy Show and will be part of some upcoming special with McGuire, said he hadn’t watched the new show.

“I haven’t been watching, I just haven’t been in front of a TV at that time so I can’t comment on things I haven’t seen,’’ he said.

“I’ve been there, done that. They’ve taken it in a new direction and I wish them well.”
