Recap: What happens when Wentworth goes into full lockdown

Only let out for work and food — sound familiar, folks? Here’s a recap of what happens when Wentworth Prison goes into full lockdown. Warning: Spoilers

Wentworth Season 8 - Teaser Trailer

Welcome to FreakWatch Again.

We are impatiently waiting for Joan Ferguson to regain her memory and realise she isn’t Kath Maxwell, but she actually killed Kath Maxwell.

Nemesis Allie couldn’t even shake her inner Freak out of her last week.

There’s some very familiar feelings for Melbourne viewers as Wentworth goes into full lockdown in this episode. And ironically this was done and dusted way before the pandemic was even a thing (next year’s series was filmed COVID-safely).

The lockdown is due to Judy Bryant going feral and kicking seven shades of poop out of prison GM Ann Bryant.

She left her for dead, with Ruby (who watched the assault) secretly lagging saving her life – with Ann in hospo with concussion, a punctured lung and broken ribs.

No one knows who did it – so the entire jail is in lockdown and Allie is pissed.

“It is inhumane to keep us locked down like this, without proper food, rec time, showers,” she tells Will.

Prison boss Will goes full Dan Andrews and agrees to a slight lifting of restrictions.

“No visitors, no rec time, no showers, you’re allowed out to work and eat, that’s it.”

Too soon Wentworth, too soon.

Joan Ferguson is not only back in the prison, she’s working in the kitchen, serving up some bread rolls that rats have already had a few nibbles on.

The angry ladies start tossing bread rolls at Joanie like they’re Kelly Osbourne at the Logies and she’s Richard Wilkins.

Lou Kelly, who’s now Joan’s bodyguard, puts an end to the bread tossing and screw Linda says the ladies have rolls or nothing.

“If they’re good enough for vermin they’re good enough for you lot.” Ouch.

We cut to Joan with the prison psych Dr Miller – eyeing off his goldfish but telling him she doesn’t want to continue with the sessions.

“Joan Ferguson was a monster, why would I want to remember her,” she notes.

“She was obviously pure evil.” You reckon?

It’s a big episode for prison psych Dr Miller. Reb’s chest surgery has been approved but with the catch he has to have an assessment.

But it brings back memories of the cult leader Reb and Lou escaped from and Reb cracks it at the poor doc.

Judy Bryant is revealing more and more what a piece of work she is.

Allie is suffering as Top Dog because the prison is in lockdown and it reflects poorly on her as the voice of the women. Judy lies and tells Allie it was Lou Kelly who beat Ann Reynolds – Allie passes that info on to get lockdown lifted.

Meanwhile Lou recruits Ferguson to get her some rat poison and is fashioning up a nasty cocktail – and tells the Freak she has to stick it in Dr Miller’s cuppa next time they have a session.

But Joanie decides to keep it for herself – and is going to have a strychnine shot and go out with a bang in her cell.

Wentworth’s Mrs Mangel – Marie Winter – comes in and stops her, bleating “it doesn’t matter who you were, only who you are now.”

How many times can The Freak’s life be saved? It’s almost like there’s a bigger storyline brewing …
