Australian actor Dan Ewing has revealed what happened during an “aggressive” argument he had with his son’s stepdad, which made headlines in 2018.

The former Home And Away actor sat down for an interrogation on SAS Australia during Monday night’s episode, where he opened up about his anger management issues and the unfortunate incident, which was the subject of a police investigation.

At the time, the 36-year-old actor was alleged to have assaulted David Robertshaw, who was newly married to Ewing’s ex-wife Marni Little, with whom he shares a son, Archie.

Speaking about it on the Channel 7 reality series, Ewing said he had become triggered after hearing his son call Mr Robertshaw “dad”.

“Rock bottom for Dan Ewing, was not seeing his son. The marriage breaking down was one thing. Not seeing my little boy? That caused me unimaginable pain,” Ewing told the soldiers.

“My little boy is six now. When he was three, it became apparent to me that he was calling his stepfather ‘dad’ and I was ‘daddy’.

“That was a pain that I would not wish on any father, any mother.

“I wanna be really clear – his stepfather is a very good man. His mother is a terrific woman. But to hear that, that was pretty bad.”

Ewing allegedly assaulted Mr Robertshaw during a custody handover in October 2018, forcing police to take out an AVO against the actor. The case was subsequently dropped.

Ewing continued: “I buried it and suppressed it and it manifested in an exchange where my son’s mother wasn’t available to do the visitation handover, just the stepfather, and that’s when I thought it’d be a great opportunity …

“I basically berated his stepfather. Informed him politely – or not so politely – that he was not his real dad. I did it in a way that was disrespectful. Aggressively, verbally aggressively.

“I jumped out of the car and I started berating him. ‘You’re not his father. F off. Go and get his mother, I am not giving my son to you.’”

Ewing attempted to say he’d since grown as a person and no longer harbours any aggression, before chief instructor Ant Middleton accused him of getting “angry” while re-telling the story.

“For you to say theres no aggression or anger in there, I would say that’s bullsh*t. Maybe you’re suppressing it a little too much trying to be someone that maybe, you’re not,” Middleton said.

“There’s nothing negative as such going on with you. Just f**king be you.

“When you completely suppress something like that, we can have these miniature explosions. If you don’t have them miniature explosions, you have a huge explosion.

“What I’ve just seen here whether you like it or not, is a miniature explosion. What we want is for you to just be you, because that’s where you’re going wrong at the moment.”

SAS Australia airs on Channel 7 Monday to Wednesday at 7.30pm
