We’ve copped our first look at the Big Brother housemates of 2022, including a slew of familiar faces from seasons past.
In a promo released on Channel 7 Thursday night, Big Brother’s omniscient voice reveals it’s been 21 years since the beloved reality show started, with snippets of iconic moments from over the years rolling on a screen set up in the mansion’s infamous living area.
The promo then cuts to footage of new contenders staring intensely down the camera as they talk themselves up ahead of the ultimate social and physical challenge.
But they have a huge surprise in store with a host of experienced players coming back to the game.
While Reggie Bird and Tim Dormer were confirmed last month as returning contestants battling against superfans, we weren’t quite prepared for the rest.
Here’s who will be taking another crack at Big Brother glory – and adding to the inevitable household drama:
Tully Smyth AND Anthony Drew from 2013
Tully Smyth was memorably dumped on Twitter by her girlfriend of over two years while she was still in the house forming an obvious connection with housemate Anthony Drew.
The 33-year-old influencer was evicted from the show to face the music in the outside world, but she re-entered the house as part of a challenge, planting a huge kiss on Drew the moment she appeared.
They dated for three months after the show, but have since admitted the short relationship didn’t feel authentic.
In the promo, Tully declares “history will not repeat itself”, but it doesn’t mean there won’t be any romance in the mansion …
Farmer Dave 2006
The first openly gay contestant and is back.
Known for coming out in an emotional live episode of the show 14 years ago, Dave has since become a donor father of three, sharing two children with a same-sex couple and one with a single female friend.
Fans will surely be delighted to learn of his return given he was such a favourite in 2006.
Estelle and Layla from 2012
Impressive game player Estelle came in third in 2012, while Layla was second. We sense there may be a rivalry here.
Trevor Butler from 2004
In 2004 Trevor Butler became an instant millionaire when he won the fourth series of Big Brother Australia.
More than two million people tuned in to the finale to see Trevor get down on one knee to propose to his girlfriend after the winner’s announcement.
Reggie Bird and Tim Dormer join the cast
The newbies including intimacy expert Sam, fitness fanatic Joel, international model Josh, superfan Johnson and entrepreneur Aleisha.
The 2022 season is set to see Sonia Kruger returning as host.
Filmed last year in Homebush, Sydney, the game promises to have a different look and feel to the Big Brother VIP season last year, which starred Meghan Markle’s half-brother Thomas and Caitlyn Jenner.
Seven’s Director of Content Scheduling Brook Hall recently told TV Tonight of this year’s past housemate intrusion: “There’s a clever way that they’re all brought in …. they enter with a different point of view to the rest of them. That’s all I can say on that one.”
