Teen ‘couldn’t put finger’ on who Sir Elton John was

A 16-year-old cafe worker got the surprise of her life when music legend Sir Elton John walked in and ordered an ice-cream. What happened next left the employee red-faced.

Elton John's final Australian tour

A teenager had a melting moment when Sir Elton John ordered an ice-cream at a cafe near Geelong, only for her not to recognise the music icon.

The star was spotted enjoying a vanilla ice-cream outside Lix Cafe in Point Lonsdale on Sunday afternoon.

But amusingly, cafe attendant Georgia Ashley, 16, said she could not quite put her finger on who the familiar face was straight away.

Miss Ashley told the Geelong Advertiser it wasn’t until she heard Sir Elton’s iconic English accent asking for a vanilla ice-cream, that she became convinced it was him.

“I sort of had a look at him and thought: ‘Is that him?’” She said.

“I just didn’t think he would be in Point Lonsdale.

“I didn’t think too much of it – and then he spoke – I heard his accent and immediately thought it was him.”

The Geelong Advertiser has obtained a photo of the star wearing a striped purple T-shirt, denim shorts, a pair of thongs and sunglasses, outside the beachside cafe.

The music legend, who performed his Farewell Yellow Brick Road show at Mt Duneed Estate on Saturday night, has reportedly been staying in the region up until recently.

Miss Ashley said the star could not have been more polite asking for an ice-cream, which he paid for in cash.

Sir Elton also strolled into the store very casually, with no entourage or security.

“He was very lovely and acted very normal,” she said.

“He was just like anyone who came off the street … he looked very casual and blended into the crowd.”

WHAT ELTON JOHN SAID TO STAGECRASHER

While it would have been very easy to fan-girl over the music icon, Miss Ashley said she managed to treat him like the average customer.

“I tried not to draw attention to him because he probably wouldn’t want that,” she said.

“It’s pretty amazing … I can happily say I served Elton John a vanilla ice-cream.”

Cafe owner Ben Ellis said everyone was “shocked” about the star’s surprise appearance.

“It’s all quite funny for us … we can’t believe it.”
