Tony Mokbel lawyer’s fashion hood the ultimate in prison chic

When Tony Mokbel was granted bail on Friday, we couldn’t help but wonder if the crime kingpin was going to use his longtime lawyer Sarah Tricarico’s fashion hood accessory as he went to and from court.

The underworld lawyer had a business side hustle and “creative outlet” creating a black bag protector to ward off smearing make-up on clothes.

Page 13 chatted to Tricarico when she first launched the Isaveste Protector — which could have been easily mistaken for a, er, spithood for prisoners — when she launched the hood back in 2022. Think prison chic.

A former junior for underworld lawyer Zarah Garde-Wilson, Tricarico, whose clients include crime kingpin George Marrogi, Ali Aydin and Mokbel associate Dominic Barbaro, said she enjoyed having a creative outlet with her business side hustle.

Acting for Mokbel on his Lawyer X appeal since 2017, Tricarico said she was sick of her heavy make-up getting all over her clothes or ruining her hair as she got dressed for the courtroom, so decided to take action.

At the time she told us she wore the moniker gangland lawyer with pride.

“I embrace it,” Tricarico said. “I go with the flow and I’m happy about what I do and work really hard.”

The suspended lawyer was recently allowed to keep Mokbel on as a client during his bail and appeal hearing.

She was arrested in early March and charged with perverting the course of justice and destructing evidence.

Late last month a Supreme Court judge ordered Tricarico be allowed to continue working under supervision with current clients to avoid disruption to their cases.

This week she has been back in court with Mokbel’s team.

Mokbel was pictured sans hood on Friday, walking from a Victoria Police armoured BearCat vehicle with his balding head on show — not even his famous wig!

But with all eyes on the notorious underworld figure as he has his first taste of freedom in 18 years while out on bail, who knows, Tricarico’s bag face protector may just come in handy.
