Footy fused with fashion seems a no-brainer. But it is only in more recent years that we are seeing not just our AFL stars, but fashion forward players, align with labels and brands outside of their club.
Fresh faced and with a model’s jaw, Collingwood premiership player Patrick Lipinski is at ease in front of the camera, posing for Superdry’s new puffer jacket season range this week.
The trendy clothing label said Lipinski was the perfect fit for their latest campaign, immediately seeking his management out.
“AFL players are probably tapping into some of this stuff a little bit more,” Lipinski said after the shoot.
“Maybe it’s a little bit more accepted, or people are just being themselves and doing what they want to do and not thinking about what others think.
“But I’ve always loved fashion and think Superdry is a cool brand.”
When Richmond’s Dustin Martin first stripped down to his undies for Bonds, the company said it was a profitable ticket.
The club took it one step further, teaming up with First Nations Melbourne brand Ngali last week for a fashion runway.
Western Bulldogs Bailey Smith has made bank doing campaigns with Cotton On, while Lipinski’s teammate Isaac Quaynor has a modelling portfolio aligning with brands from Christian Louboutin to Canada Goose.
Many in the Magpie’s nest – from Quaynor to captain Darcy Moore – could be jockeying for biggest style game.
“Darcy Moore has done a few pretty cool photo shoots and Isaac Quaynor is a very good looking guy doing some cool things in the fashion space,” Lipinski said.
“So it’s cool to have other teammates kind of doing it. We can all look at each other and see what we’re all doing. It’s kind of cool.”
